Given under the auspices of the Association of the Friends of Music, Preggio. The 26th season of the Preggio Music Festival will take place from 26 July through 16 August, 2008.
Preggio is a medieval hilltop village in the region of Umbria, Italy, in the province of Perugia, comune of Umbertide. It lies 15 km to the east of Lake Trasimeno, and is within easy reach of Perugia, Cortona, Umbertide, Arezzo, Assisi, and many other fascinating Italian cultural sites and towns. The village sits 640 metres (2,100 feet) above sea level with stunning views of the surrounding and typically Umbrian landscape. The hills are wooded with chestnut and oak trees, the lower pastures and farmland are replete in summer with grazing sheep and ripening crops, and the air always sweet and pure. In Preggio itself there is both a bar, Hosteria delle Vecchie Volpi, and a restaurant, La Castagna, to satisfy your pre- and post- concert food and beverage requirements, however demanding.
Refreshments are also available at the intermissions of the opera.
All our concerts will take place in the Preggio parish Church of San Francesco, which was constructed in 1223 and later embellished with lively internal baroque decorations. Performances (all four of them, and when the weather co-operates!) of Mozart’s opera Così Fan Tutte will take place in the parish gardens, inside the wall on the side of the church.
